Friday is always a fun busy day. The Camper vs. Pro Games at Goodyear Ballpark are a treat for everyone. At the Complex, it is bittersweet as lockers are emptied and the goodbyes begin.
The Awards Banquet at the hotel was top-notch and a great way to close the Goodyear festivities. Congratulations to all of the campers on a great week and to those who won awards. The recipients are listed on the front page of the final edition of Smoke Signals, which I just posted.
Thanks for following the happenings of the 2015 Cleveland Indians Fantasy Camp. Next up is Reunion Day at Progressive Field. Can’t wait!
We enjoyed a post-season chill in the air at Goodyear Ballpark last night when the two LCS winners – Jo-Jacks and S&C Tribe – played the World Series Game. Jo-Jacks won 7-5 to capture the WSG crown. Details will be in today’s Smoke Signals, which will be distributed at the close of the banquet. I will post following …
The regular season featured thrilling finishes in both leagues. Buffaloheads advanced to the HLCS with a come-from-behind walk-off victory over S&C Tribe, who they will host Thursday morning. Southwestern Tribe has home field advantage in the LLCS where they will face Jo-Jacks. The pennant winner in each of those games will advance to the World Series Game to be played at Goodyear Ballpark under the lights later Thursday.
Southwestern Tribe and Jo-Jacks finished with identical 4-2 records. The head-to-head tie-breaker was Game 3 when Southwestern Tribe came out on top.
Buffaloheads, S&C Tribe, and Lefty Style finished with identical 3-3 records. The head-to-head tie-breaker is in favor of Buffaloheads, who bested both teams. Lefty Style was edged out, having lost to both teams.
The great photos below, from Indians Team Photographer, Dan Mendlik, along with Thursday’s Smoke Signals tell the stories from today’s action.
The regular season action is exciting and has featured great team and individual performances. Through four games, Southwestern Tribe is undefeated and has a one game lead over Jo-Jacks in the Legends League. All four Heroes League teams entered Tuesday with identical 1-1 records. S&C Tribe won a pair to gain sole possession of first place. Buffaloheads and Desert Dogs are one game behind at 2-2. Wednesday’s games will determine the postseason match-ups and home field advantage.

The first-ever Cleveland Indians Fantasy Camp Trivia Night held in the hotel ballroom was a lot of fun.
Before the contest began, we enjoyed video high/low lights of the day’s action on the field. Camper Matt Underwood then stepped to the microphone on behalf of the Indians. Matt told a funny story – complete with a spot-on impersonation of Bob Feller – about his time with #19 while covering the Tribe in Miami during the 1997 World Series. He then called up Frank Durkalski to present him with several Bob Feller autographed items in celebration of Frank’s 86th birthday.
The trivia contest saw each of the 8 newly formed teams sit at separate tables to deliberate the first round 10 multiple choice questions. The answers were revealed at the end of the round to advance the top 4 teams to round 2, which consisted of 3 multiple choice questions and 2 open-ended queries. The top 2 teams advanced to the final round of 5 open-ended questions. In a close contest, Desert Dogs captured the cash prize with the remaining proceeds donated to Cleveland Indians Charities.
A great way to cap off the first full day of camp!
Included in Monday’s edition is a supplement to the Sunday edition: a “Pro-File” of Carlos Baerga, who arrived last night to replace Sid Monge, who had to cancel for a good reason – his Winter League team is advancing through the playoffs.
It’s Opening Day of the regular season! The morning games are in progress. More to follow ….
