The Awards Banquet was fun and a great way to close a great week of Cleveland Indians Fantasy Camp baseball. Good friends, good food, and a good time!
Each team and camper was recognized, and the four camp awards were presented. The name of each recipient is on page one of Smoke Signals, just beneath the championship game story.
Bob DiBiasio announced that Reunion Day at Progressive Field is Sunday, June 9th. Until then ….
Thursday is always a huge day, with the final games of the regular season, the first round of camper vs. pro games, and the camp championship game.
The Heroes Division winner came down to Game 7. Stanler Steamers controlled their own destiny. They defeated Schniedley’s 27-7 to win the Heroes Division.
Baseball action moved to Goodyear Ballpark for the remainder of camp, beginning with four teams playing the Indians Pros. Everyone had an awesome time!
At 5:00, newly crowned Stanler Steamers played Legends Division winner Goodyear Bombers for the camp championship. At 6:00, those not playing enjoyed a ballpark BBQ dinner in the picnic plaza.
The championship game was one of the best ever, featuring outstanding pitching and defense by both teams. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning. Goodyear Bombers broke through with a four-runs, then held on after allowing a run in the top of the 7th, to win 4-1. A complete game recap will appear in Friday’s edition of Smoke Signals. It will post late tonight after it is distributed at the Awards Banquet.
Baseball activities conclude this morning when the remaining four teams play the team of Indians Pros at Goodyear Ballpark.
Please note that Friday’s Smoke Signals is a special edition that will be distributed at the Awards Banquet Friday night. It will be posted here soon after.
Interleague play with the Reds was great! Today was very busy with so much happening.
The morning games resulted in an even 4-4 split. Same for the afternoon. That means the first-ever fantasy camp Ohio Cup was decided on a tie-breaker. The first level is most runs scored. The Reds outscored us, so they were awarded the trophy at the fun gathering hosted here at the end of the afternoon. Seeing close to 200 players in Indians and Reds uniforms was a great sight. The two Reds campers who accepted the award have each been attending for over 20 years.
Goodyear Bombers won both of their games to clinch the Legends Division title. The Heroes Division winner will not be decided until Game 7 is played Thursday morning.
The first four teams will play the Pros at Goodyear Ballpark beginning Thursday at 1:00. The championship game begins at 5:00. The final four teams will play the Pros starting at 9:00 Friday morning.
Baseball action was in full swing under glorious Goodyear weather. (Sorry to hear of freezing temperatures and snow back home.)
The four Heroes Division teams were all tied with 1-1 records at the beginning of the day. The two Legends Division teams with 2-0 records battled each other in Game 3. Scores, standings, stats, and highlights to appear in Wednesday’s Smoke Signals.
There were many great plays and close games today. Ty Towriss hit another bomb out of the park – his second in two days – and on a different field.
Interleague play and the battle for the fantasy camp Ohio Cup is tomorrow. After the games, both camps will have a mixer at the Indians complex to meet each other and the Reds Pros, and for the trophy presentation. Hope we go 8-0!
The morning games are in the books and the 2013 season is underway! After a tasty lunch and relaxation in perfect weather, the teams are now beginning Game 2.
Some of the Favorite Fans may be delayed getting to the stands in favor of laying in the sun on the stretching field. Who can blame them!
I will head to the fields to see the action following an interview that will appear in tomorrow’s Smoke Signals. To see the two previous editions, click on the link just below that day’s header. Follow me on Twitter at IndiansFC for selected in-game updates.
